Bodycam Released In Chicago Officer Involved Shooting

Chicago, IL – Chicago police officers shot a man after chasing him into a South Side apartment building Wednesday night on Nov. 1st in the East Chatham neighborhood. Around 7 p.m., patrol officers saw an “armed” man in a crowd of people near 79th Street and Drexel Avenue and chased after him when he ran away, Chief of Patrol Fred Waller said. The group of about three officers followed the man into the third floor of an apartment building about a block away in the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue, where there was a “confrontation,” police said. Police officials previously characterized it as a “struggle.” One officer then fired one shot, he said. The man did not return fire. Officers recovered a 9 mm weapon with an extended clip. A photograph distributed by police shows the weapon on a tile floor with the clip and a round lying nearby.

The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the neck, police said.
