Deadpool 2 earned a massive $53.3 million during its opening day on Friday, landing the best opening-day in history for an R-rated film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This includes the Thursday evening haul of $18.6 million
Deadpool 2 surpassed its original projections of a $52 million opening and beat the previous R-rated champ It, which made $50 million on its first Friday.
At this rate, Deadpool 2 also has a chance at achieving the top opening weekend of all time for an R-rated film if it beats the original Deadpool’s $132.4 million launch in February 2016. The first Deadpool made $47.4 million on its opening Friday.
