Idris Elba Says It’s Time For a Female Bond

Remember 2015? It was a simpler time when a human Cheeto wasn’t our president and rumors were circulating that Idris Elba could be the next James Bond.

It took a couple years for those rumors to somewhat subside, but now it’s 2018 and we’re still hoping, just maybe, Elba would do it. Never mind the fact that, as Vanity Fair points out, he’s rejected the rumors multiple times because he’s “too old” and already plays a handsome British detective on his show Luther. Perhaps to finally get people off his back, which would look great in a 007 tux, he told Variety that the next Bond should be played by a woman.

“Are we interested in having a Bond character other than being a male?” he posed when asked about the Bond franchise. “It could be a woman—could be a black woman, could be a white woman. But I think that character, everybody would like to see it have…do something different with it. Why not?”

  1. A fine actor, but he's dead wrong on this. Such a foolish idea could even sink the franchise. There's something to be said for tradition, and it's tradition that Bond is a Brit (or at least played as a Brit), white, and male. Anybody not happy with that is perfectly free to go create a character of their own, and see if that succeeds.

  2. No thanks! Not everything is in need of a change or shake up to be inclusive. Bond is who he is. Is it time for a male Wonder Woman too?! This overly compassionate, everyone gets a 🏆 sh#t is getting on my nerves!

  3. They should actually switch up the pace by showing James Bond before he become the coolest man in the world. They should make him more realistic! They should show him younger trying and failing like everyone else and working hard to overcome and become who he is. I think thst would inspire a lot of people because that's one thing never shown in a bond film.

  4. Just make a female character similar to bond, the bond character is male as represented in the books, that’s like saying wonderwoman needs to be a man in the next film, fuck off with this gender equality bs taking it too far

  5. The comment section are idiots read between the lines. I think he's know it with that question at this point but he's not trying to mess up his money.
